SUMMARY:Community Circle: Survivors of Gun Violence
DESCRIPTION:This is a Community Circle for repairing\, restoring and transforming harms caused by gun violence. \nJoin your community online in creating a safe and brave space for community members who are survivors of gun violence to share how their experiences of violence and trauma have affected themselves\, their families\, and their communities. \nDr. raj will join us together in circle\, helping us listen with our hearts and be vulnerable to our community members’ experiences of gun violence. We’ll learn how the violence and loss impacts families\, communities\, and future generations. We’ll also break into small groups to support each other by discussing what we’re hearing and sharing with each other our own experiences. We can also learn to be empowered to help make change in our communities. \nThis event is free of charge\, and we hope all will stay for the full session. This will help create a safe space for people to share and learn. \nWe look forward to meeting you and holding this space together.

SUMMARY:Supporting LGBTQ+ Community Members
DESCRIPTION:Join Trainer Beau RaRa (they/them)\n\n\nIt is essential for mediators and restorative practitioners to create spaces that are welcoming and supportive of all participants. For many members of the LGBTQ Community\, taking part in processes like mediation or restorative processes may not always feel as safe as we think. Join us for this CE/CLE on July 27th to learn how to hold space when serving LGBTQ participants as well as manage other party comments and attitudes to help maintain a respectful\, safe\, and effective session. \nTrainer Bio: Beau RaRa (they/them) is a poet and a lawyer who believes relationship is the locus of most transformative social change. Born in Robbinsdale\, Minnesota\, Beau moved back to Minnesota in 2016 after working in positive youth development after school in North Denver and Boulder\, Colorado. Equal parts learner and educator\, Beau believes that youth are the experts of their own lives and feels immense reverence for the various roles they have gotten to play in the lives of youth. \nBeau spent their first two years as a lawyer at Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid and the Disability Law Center representing unhoused youth and youth with disabilities on cases ranging from eviction to emancipation to disability-related proceedings in schools or related to county benefits. As an advocate for systems change\, Beau could not be more thrilled about working in their role as LRC’s Youth Restorative Justice Initiative Lead.

DESCRIPTION:30-Hour Mediator Training – online – Thursday evenings Sept 14 through Nov 2.\n\n\n30-Hour Civil Facilitative Hybrid Mediation ONLINE Class  \n8-week class – Wednesday afternoons in September and ending in November \nDates: Sept 14\, 21\, 28; Oct 5\,12\, 19\,26 and Nov 2 \nTime: 5:00 to 9:15 pm \nCost: $800 \nCRC’s 30-Hour Mediator Training is a comprehensive\, experiential course that teaches how to skillfully facilitate conversations between people in conflict by having frank and important dialogues and assisting them to reach mutually satisfactory outcomes. This course is designed for all individuals wanting to learn to mediate for use at home\, in their communities\, and professionally for social workers\, attorneys\, psychologists\, and many other human-centered professions. \nDuring the training\, mediation students learn the mediation process and gain skills to help mediation participants have productive conversations and support their self-determination. Each module of CRC’s mediation course is infused with discussions of bias\, race\, and other cultural difficulties\, and students are challenged to be aware of their affects of joining participants’ conversation during this vulnerable time of conflict. Students learn to identify the interests and fundamental needs that underlie the positions of people in conflict and learn ways to listen effectively\, manage impasse\, and tend to the needs of all participants. Additionally\, participants learn skills to remain neutral in challenging situations and gain an understanding of ethical issues that may arise when mediating parties in conflict. \nParticipants will purchase The Mediator’s Handbook: Revised & Expanded Fourth Edition (look for the orange cover)\, by Jennifer E. Beer and Caroline C. Packard. It may be purchased when registering\, and it will be mailed to you with the course manual. You will receive the materials a few days before the first session of class. It is also available through on-line bookstores. \nCredentials: This 30-hour Civil Facilitative Mediator Training is certified to meet all requirements of both the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Rule 114 Training Guidelines and the Community Dispute Resolution Program Training Requirements for community mediators in Minnesota. Upon completion of this course\, participants will be eligible for inclusion on the Minnesota Rule 114 Qualified Neutral Civil Roster as well as be eligible to volunteer with community mediation centers throughout Minnesota. \nProfessional Credits: \n30 Alternative Dispute Resolution Credits (ADR) \n30 Continuing Legal Education Credits (CLEs): 25 Standard)\, 2 Ethics\, and 3 Elimination of Bias Credits \nCRC is a non-profit organization. SUMMARY:Webinar: Using Core Concerns in Mediation
DESCRIPTION:Join Dawn Zugay\, with Conflict Resolution Center\n\n\nIn their book\, Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as you Negotiate\, Daniel Shapiro and Roger Fisher of the Harvard Program on Negotiation provide advice on using five emotional needs (appreciation\, affiliation\, autonomy\, status\, and role) that they term core concerns to turn disagreements into opportunities for mutual gains. \n This program will focus on how mediators can use the core concerns as a lens to better understand the underlying concerns driving the parties’ conflict and as a lever to help the parties experience more positive emotions and be more willing to work with one another. In particular\, it will discuss the importance of emotions in the mediation process\, how parties respond when their emotional needs are met and not met and using active listening skills to meet mediation participants core concerns. \nYou will receive webinar log in information prior to the event.

DESCRIPTION:30-Hour Mediator Training – online – Tuesday and Thursday afternoons May 9 through June 1\n\n\n30-Hour Civil Facilitative Hybrid Mediation ONLINE Class  \n4-week class – Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in May and ending in June \nDates: May 9\,11\,16\,18\,23\,25\, 30 and June 1 \nTime: 1:00 to 5:15 pm \nCost: $800 \nCRC’s 30-Hour Mediator Training is a comprehensive\, experiential course that teaches how to skillfully facilitate conversations between people in conflict by having frank and important dialogues and assisting them to reach mutually satisfactory outcomes. SUMMARY:Neurodiversity in Mediation with Sierra Grandy
DESCRIPTION:Two-hour webinar on Neurodiversity in Mediation with Sierra Grandy\n\n\nIn this two-hour training\, we aim to raise your awareness of neurodiversity and provide language and context to neurodivergent experiences. Including discussions about the difference between “neurodiverse” and “neurodivergent\,” the Social Models of Disability vs. the Medical Model of Disability\, and a brief overview of some of the traits you may see in neurodivergent individuals. After we set you up with a common frame of reference\, we will shift to discussing how neurodivergencies within mediation participants may impact mediations and some accommodations that may be helpful. Finally\, we will finish with a discussion about neurodivergencies within mediators and how recruiting more people with neurodivergencies to become Qualified Neutrals can play a role in the ongoing diversity\, equity\, and inclusion discussions surrounding conflict resolution. \nSierra Grandy is a neurodivergent second-year law student at the University of Minnesota and is a law clerk at a local law firm. In addition to being in law school\, Sierra is a frequent public speaker on disability topics\, most of which focus on mental health or neurodiversity. Most recently\, she was on a panel of legal professionals for the February Federal Bar Association Luncheon “Out in the Open: Unseen Disability in the Legal Community.” \n 2 ADR CE credits awarded \n2 CLE credits applied for \nNO CHARGE for active CRC volunteer mediators – If you do not know the Promo Code please contact Janet. janet@crcminnesota.org. SUMMARY:Setting Boundaries in Mediation
DESCRIPTION:Setting Boundaries in Mediation\n\n\nEven though participant self-determination is at the core of our mediator principles\, setting boundaries during a mediation is a necessary consideration\, which may appear contradictory. This webinar will take a look at when it is appropriate and useful to set boundaries\, as well as best practices for doing so. We’ll also examine self-determination and neutrality to look at the gray areas of our best practices discussion. \n 1 ADR CE credits awarded \n1 CLE credits applied for \nNO CHARGE for active CRC volunteer mediators – If you do not know the Promo Code please contact Janet. janet@crcminnesota.org.
