This course is designed for all individuals wanting to learn to mediate for use at home\, in their communities\, and professionally for social workers\, attorneys\, psychologists\, and many other human-centered professions. \nDuring the training\, mediation students learn the mediation process and gain skills to help mediation participants have productive conversations and support their self-determination. Each module of CRC’s mediation course is infused with discussions of bias\, race\, and other cultural difficulties\, and students are challenged to be aware of their effects of joining participants’ conversation during this vulnerable time of conflict. Students learn to identify the interests and fundamental needs that underlie the positions of people in conflict and learn ways to listen effectively\, manage impasse\, and tend to the needs of all participants. Additionally\, participants learn skills to remain neutral in challenging situations and gain an understanding of ethical issues that may arise when mediating parties in conflict. \nParticipants will purchase The Mediator’s Handbook: Revised & Expanded Fourth Edition (look for the orange cover)\, by Jennifer E. Beer and Caroline C. Packard. It may be purchased when registering\, and it will be mailed to you with the course manual. You will receive the materials a few days before the first session of class. It is also available through on-line bookstores. \nCredentials: This 30-hour Civil Facilitative Mediator Training is certified to meet all requirements of both the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Rule 114 Training Guidelines and the Community Dispute Resolution Program Training Requirements for community mediators in Minnesota. Upon completion of this course\, participants will be eligible for inclusion on the Minnesota Rule 114 Qualified Neutral Civil Roster as well as be eligible to volunteer with community mediation centers throughout Minnesota. \nProfessional Credits: \n30 Alternative Dispute Resolution Credits (ADR) \n30 Continuing Legal Education Credits (CLEs): 25 Standard)\, 2 Ethics\, and 3 Elimination of Bias Credits \nCRC is a non-profit organization. SUMMARY:Conflict Coaching Training - Online - 4 sessions - Aug/Sept 2024
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use one-on-one sessions to help individuals in conflict\n\n\nDates: August 27\, 29\, Sept 3\, 5. \nTime: 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm each day \nLocation: Online \nThis 16-hour workshop is for people who work with others in conflict. Conflict coaching is one-on-one process during which a trained conflict coach works with a person in conflict using conflict resolution skills and strategies to support the coachee’s ability to engage in\, manage\, or productively resolve the conflict. Conflict coaching can be used as a stand-alone process or as a step before or during mediation. A conflict coach is a confidential listener who helps the coachee see the conflict from all perspectives\, consider options\, and come up with a plan of action. In conflict coaching\, the coachee\, not the conflict coach\, is responsible for the outcome. Conflict coaching can be useful for conflicts in the workplace\, divorce and post-decree situations as well as community disputes. \nT his class is geared towards individuals who have already completed basic mediation training. If you are interested in taking the course without this prerequisite\, please contact marianne@crcminnesota.org to discuss. \n16 ADR CE credits awarded. \nThe following topics will be covered: · \n\nUnderstanding what conflict coaching is and is not;\nUnderstanding conflict- sources\, types\, physiology;\nGaining new skills to help others transform conflict;\nUnderstanding and conducting the stages of conflict coaching;\nUnderstanding and appreciating the role of emotion;\nGaining hands on skills in teaching “I” messages\, conflict mapping\, role playing\, listening\, perspective swapping and other skills;\nPracticing conflict coaching through role plays and exercises.\n\n*Scholarships may be available for current CRC volunteers. \nConflict Coaching Trainer: Roseanna Ross \nRoseanna is Professor Emerita of Communication Studies at St. Cloud State University. Beer and Caroline C. Packard. It may be purchased when registering\, and it will be mailed to you with the course manual. You will receive the materials a few days before the first session of class. SUMMARY:Neurodiversity in Mediation with Sierra Grandy
DESCRIPTION:Two-hour webinar on Neurodiversity in Mediation with Sierra Grandy\n\n\nIn this two-hour training\, we aim to raise your awareness of neurodiversity and provide language and context to neurodivergent experiences. Including discussions about the difference between “neurodiverse” and “neurodivergent\,” the Social Models of Disability vs. the Medical Model of Disability\, and a brief overview of some of the traits you may see in neurodivergent individuals. After we set you up with a common frame of reference\, we will shift to discussing how neurodivergencies within mediation participants may impact mediations and some accommodations that may be helpful. We also will have a discussion about neurodivergencies within mediators and how recruiting more people with neurodivergencies to become Qualified Neutrals can play a role in the ongoing diversity\, equity\, and inclusion discussions surrounding conflict resolution. This year we are adding in some scenarios to work on as a group to help with skillbuilding. \nSierra Grandy is a neurodivergent third-year law student at the University of Minnesota and is a law clerk at a local law firm. In addition to being in law school\, Sierra is a frequent public speaker on disability topics\, most of which focus on mental health or neurodiversity. Most recently\, she was on a panel of legal professionals for the February Federal Bar Association Luncheon “Out in the Open: Unseen Disability in the Legal Community.” \n2 ADR CE credits awarded \n2 CLE credits applied for \nNO CHARGE for active CRC volunteer mediators – If you do not know the Promo Code please contact Marianne at marianne@crcminnesota.org.
